CARING - INNOVATING - TOGETHER:
Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has reached over 18 million beneficiaries in 15 countries, mainly in Africa. In 2024, we have implemented 59 humanitarian medical response projects to address the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects are carried out in support of national health authorities through healthcare facilities (including hospitals and health centres). Our work is driven by a constant adaptation to the realities on the ground and to medical advances. In 2024, ALIMA reached 5.9 million beneficiaries. We work in partnership, particularly with local NGOs, wherever possible, to ensure that our patients benefit from expertise wherever it is available, whether within their own country or elsewhere in the world. Furthermore, to improve the humanitarian response, we carry out operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the field of combating malnutrition and viral haemorrhagic fevers.

ALIMA IN SUDAN
ALIMA registered in Sudan in April 2021 and began operations in August 2021 supporting severe COVID-19 case management at Omdurman Teaching Hospital. In 2022, activities expanded to Al Shaab Hospital in Khartoum with the installation of an oxygen plant, and to South Kordofan with emergency obstetric and newborn care and primary healthcare services funded by ELMA and CDCS. In 2023, ALIMA responded to displacement in West Kordofan through mobile clinics and strengthened services in Kadugli, funded by the Sudan Humanitarian Fund. After the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, ALIMA launched a two-year health and nutrition program in South Kordofan and North Darfur with GOAL and ECHO, maintaining operations through national staff and remote coordination despite the closure of its Khartoum office. Activities in North Darfur began in 2024, including nutrition support and mobile clinics for displaced populations. Coordination later moved to N’Djamena, Chad, while a coordination office was briefly established in Port Sudan (Nov 2024–June 2025). Due to escalating insecurity, the El Fasher project closed in July 2025 and activities were refocused in Tawila, including response to a cholera outbreak. ALIMA continues to support vulnerable and displaced populations through health and nutrition interventions while strengthening regional coordination, including a platform established in Nairobi in September 2024.
In Sudan, ALIMA aims to reduce mortality and morbidity among internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in conflict-affected areas of North Darfur and, hopefully, soon in West Darfur States. Specifically, the objective is to provide life-saving medical, nutritional, and emergency assistance to vulnerable populations in areas with high health and nutrition needs.
The intervention focuses on 3 key sectors: health, nutrition, and emergency response.
1- Access to quality primary and secondary healthcare, including WASH, sexual and reproductive health, and GBV services, is improved for displaced and host communities;
2- Prevention and treatment of malnutrition for children under five is strengthened in hotspots.
3- Support for local emergency response systems ensures readiness for crises such as outbreaks and new displacements.
ALIMA currently provides essential health services in North and West Darfur State, which is severely impacted by conflict and displacement.
